Hello, lovely Souls,
I hope this newsletter finds you in a joyful mood.
Well, it's Sunday, and even though we talk about decreasing our screen time in our self care routines, I still fell victim to mindless scrolling on YouTube.
But while scrolling, I found an interesting TEDX talk by Chloe Hakim Moore, an acclaimed artist, social designer, and humanitarian.
The title read, ' Stop Chasing Purpose and Focus on Wellness’ which caught my attention.
I have always believed that my Purpose drives my actions because I intend to fulfill it.
It molds who I am and who I have become and dictates my identity. However, Chloe's talk made me reconsider this perspective.
Here are three questions that Chloe's TEDx talk addresses
What is a quarter-life crisis, and why is it significant?
How can one find fulfillment and peace in life?
Why is personal wellness essential for contributing positively to the world?
Chloe profoundly reflects on the challenges of navigating a quarter-life crisis (25 years before the mid-life crisis) and the importance of focusing on wellness over Purpose.
Chloe begins by discussing the anxiety and existential questions that come with this phase of life.
She highlights its significance by drawing parallels to a midlife crisis and discussing how it impacts Millennials, particularly in today's world.
She shares her personal experiences, including her battle with anxiety, depression, and the pressure that one has to live a purpose-driven life. These experiences, which many of us can relate to, made her realize the importance of prioritizing wellness in her life.
She highlights the importance of basic self-care practices—such as sleep, hydration, and exercise—combined with a commitment to personal wellness. These are practical steps that anyone can take, empowering us to navigate life's challenges with a strong foundation of health.
Chloe advocates for a wellness-centered approach to life, arguing that true fulfillment and peace come from within and that only when individuals are at peace with themselves can they contribute positively to the world.
But even when I agree with most of it, some questions linger.
Is it not that Purpose can provide direction, motivation, and a sense of accomplishment, which are crucial for long-term satisfaction and mental well-being? Without it, we may lack the drive to pursue meaningful achievements.
External circumstances, such as economic stability and social support, contribute to overall well-being. Can personal wellness practices alone address these challenges? While personal wellness practices are essential, they may not be sufficient in addressing the broader systemic issues that contribute to stress, anxiety, and dissatisfaction in life.
Well I’m going to leave you with that thought.
